Not that this item has a lot to do about XDCAM but more about Sony seeking feedback for the difficult times ahead...not that they don't listen to their customers, but at least getting a response would be a good first step. Maybe I'm becoming a little cynical but I really don't think Sony are going to admit or comment negatively on their products, but yes, they will listen. Mal
SONY LAUNCHES INTERACTIVE SOCIAL NETWORKING COMMUNITY IN TIME FOR CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 6, 2009 In an ongoing effort to connect and converse with customers and the public, Sony Electronics is expanding its social networking outreach with todays beta launch of an interactive community site. The site www.sony.com/electronicsblog will house the companys blog, as well as videos, photos, polls and consumer profiles.
The launch coincides with the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show and will provide people with a resource for finding out about the latest announcements and show activity in an informal, conversational format, while at the same time being able to interact directly with company officials and other Sony enthusiasts.
The Sony blog has enabled us to speak frankly and directly with our customer base and the public at large, not only in the U.S. but around the world, said blog host Rick Clancy, senior vice president of corporate communications, Sony Electronics Inc. Now were looking to make the blog the cornerstone of a more interactive community site that provides people with the opportunity to talk to us and to each other about their opinions, experiences and observations with respect to Sony, our products, the industry and even our competitors.
The Sony Electronics community site will also link to the companys existing social networking sites, including the Frontline consumer research community, the Backstage 101 learning community, and Ratings and Reviews on sonystyle.com. Additional Sony product and service focused communities will launch in the coming months.
To further engage people, Sony is asking for help in naming the new community site by encouraging consumers to submit their ideas on the new community blog.
My favorite so far is Sony No Baloney, which I used for the very first blog post, but some of my colleagues disagree, Clancy said. Hopefully, the community members themselves can suggest something more clever.
In conjunction with developing the new community, Sony has also launched a Sony Electronics channel on YouTube.com, a Sony Electronics Twitter account, and a Sony Electronics Flickr page. Sony also has a CES 2009 Facebook page.
Luxembourg-based group adopts XDCAM HD422 as common file format standard for high definition programme exchange.
The technical committee of all technical directors of RTL Group has announced their decision on a file format for high definition programme exchange within the Group and with external distributors. The format chosen is XDCAM HD422 50Mbps MPEG-2 Long GoP 1080i.
The committee is a consortium of all technical directors of the different RTL Group channels to exchange knowledge about new technologies and propose technology recommendations. Under the lead of Jean Lampach of Broadcasting Center Europe, its members decided on this format after intensive tests, mainly carried out at the Cologne Broadcasting Center over the last weeks.
This decision is part of RTL Groups strategy to create an HD workflow in a completely file-based environment, which lowers delivery and post production costs, along with reducing the carbon footprint. It will not overrule any agreement between an RTL company and a distributor for another file-based or tape-based format, or any other acquisition (camera) formats in use at any RTL Group company.
RTL Group, Luxembourg Broadcasting Center Europe was founded in January 2000 as a result of the merger of different technical entities of RTL Group. Located in Luxembourg, it is a major European player, providing technical services in the fields of TV, radio, telecommunications and IT.

"Ive already made it clear that I am a Sony EX1/EX3 fan. I think Sony may have hit the sweet spot that makes solid-state recording a usable technology for broadcasters, in conjunction with XDCam disc recording for archive and backups."

RED has offered a special trade in of $17.5K to original owners of RED One for a special limited edition of the Epic S35.
All part of keeping faith with the RED faithful, as technology and design enhancements have forced change upon RED.
Looks like a turbulent 2009 ahead for all camera manufacturers as they will no doubt try and up the ante in features of existing models.
