I just noticed that Premiere CS4 is not able to import Quicktime files. So what's the best way to convert Quicktime files to XDCAM without loss in quality?

Ok my problem was solved by Sony Service... they had to open up the whole machine to release the media adaptor. No other way, they told me !

This is a serious design flaw in the PXU-MS240 and i expect many users to have the same problem in the future since it's very easy to insert the adaptor from the wrong end.

BE WARNED !

Yesterday, at the end of a long editing night, i inserted the wrong end of the Sony media adaptor (mead-sd01) into the ms240. I heard a small click and now the card is stuck and the release button isn't of any help. The back of the card is held into the ms240 by small pins that clicked on insertion.

Stupid mistake but very serious situation for me because I urgently need to access the footages on the SDHC card inside the stuck adaptor.

Is there any hidden release mecanism on this machine similar to what you have on cameras to eject a stuck tape ?

I always tell our customers that umless you are looking for a specific look for a specific shoot then ensure all your settings are middle of the road. i.e. do not allow highlights to blow out and similarly do not crush blacks. What is lost in camera can never be recovered!
Be carefull when adjusting colour matrix or saturation, it is very easy to produce illegal colours which will subsequently be rejected by the broadcaster.
A rule of thumb is to reduce detail, as most cameras are somewhat overcooked - the PDW-700 being a prime example. Lower the detail and you also reduce compression artefacts.
If you need a specific look it can always be done in post if the material has not been excessively corrected in camera.
i.e. Play it safe, and if you must make adjustments in camera then carefully monitor your results on a decent size high quality monitor - not a low res 9" field monitor!

Hi. I've shot several times now with the nanoFlash and had great results. The Media is more expensive than SDHC cards, but once configured, it works seamlessly when clicking start on the camera itself. Plus, you can record 35mbps on the camera itself (if so inclined). I have used a third party SDHC adaptor (Hoodman) for the camera and never had one issue. I can tell you that, at higher bit rates in 4:2:2, blacks are MUCH better; MUCH. Although I've been using it with an EX-1. Here's the link:

The 350ex records onto S X S @ 35mbps, like the EX-1 and EX-3; not sure if the adaptor works on the 350, but it should, unless SONY did something to block the use of adaptor cards in the 350. (sorry if it isn't a workable solution; I'm not that familiar with the 350) Hope that helps.

the problem was solved. It was the cache in xdcam transfer was full, you need to remove the discs from there once you have imported them, Rob at videocraft sorted it out. Sony's error messages kept changing per disc and this didn't help. So the moto is 'remove discs from xdcam transfer when you have imported them'.

I hate being a beta tester for Sony, I pay enough money for the equipment.

The latest software V1.10 gives full compatibility with the Sony MEAD-SD01 adapter.
This is the Sony SDHC adapter.

With the MEAD-SD01 adapter, Sony only recommend Sandisk SDHC class 10 cards.

Offspeed operation is NOT possible (certainly NOT guaranteed).

There is no Salvage available as per SxS cards, and use of SDHC cards is only recommended for “emergency” or non-critical use.

We also have the MEAD-MS01 which allows use with High Speed Memory Stick Duo (HG Duo) - same constrains apply as for SDHC.

The ideal solution for everyday use is the new 32GB SxS-1 card, easily identified by it's orange colour - rather than blue.

The SxS-1 card offers double the capacity (32GB) for same price as original SxS (blue) 16GB card.
It utilises multi-cell technology compared to single cell.
Lifetime is slightly compromised but they are still talking everyday use for 5 years.
There are no limitations regarding offspeed use or salvage etc.

As an alternative, the Convergent Design Nano-Flash appears to be an excellent product and offers MPEG2 422 Long GoP recording at bit rates from 50-180Mbps.
Stop Start function can be triggered via timecode on the HDSDI stream from the camera.

The latest firmware gives some added reliability and features to the SDHC cards - always best to do a trial recording first. Depending on brand be careful not to button on / off too quickly, can create errors.
I've used them for the last 18 months or more and have had a couple of scary incidents. Use SxS for best security.
