Hi,
Need some help with an FCP conundrum. Importing from a 5D converting to ProRes, but ned to output XDCAM HD422 50Mbps. When exporting EXPORT>SONY XDCAM all the other XDCAM codecs are there, but there is no option for the HD422 codec. If I change the timeline settings to HD422 and then export with current settings it does work...after rendering. Anyone got any ideas? I am assuming it's neater to do an color correction etc in ProRes and then export (eve though it will still need to render)...or is it no different simply changing the sequence settings after all correction has been done and then exporting as current? Cheers, Chris

Hello Scott,
I have a 700 since more than one year and re-used disk (50GB) many times without any problems. I'm loading data in Mac using PDW-U1 and XDCAM transfert (actual version 2.12.0) but never from FCP directly... Which version of OSX (mine are 10.6.3 and 10.5.8) are you running ? How do you read the disk ? (camera, PDW-U1) Patrick

Hi,
Has anyone else been having problems ingesting xdcam discs into FCP? I'm getting all kinds of errors from the xdcam transfer software, sometimes it will work with no issues but most times it wont ingest at all. The discs appear to be ok, i can see the file structure in finder and I play the .mxf files with VLC. Some of the discs are reused and were reformatted on the camera before shooting. I shot 9 discs yesterday, 5 on a 700 and 4 discs on the 800, 1 disc worked fine, 2 with errors and 6 wont ingest at all. I'm told by Sony that I am the only person who is having these problems, is there anyone else having similar problems?? Regards, Scott

Please note that 24P (strictly 23.98PsF) is an option on the PDW-700.
Regarding 50Mbit versus AVC Intra 100, this is a debate that will go on and on. Basically the 50Mbit was a request from the broadcasters so that that existing infrastructure, servers (storage) and pipelines (bandwidth) as used for SD could be utilised for HD. i.e. go to 100Mbit and everything needs to be doubled which of course equates directly to dollars. Secondly you are comparing Intra to Inter(Long GoP). The basic quality of the picture is dictated by the i-Frame. With Intra the 50Mbit is equally divided across all frames, so at 25Frames per sec (PAL) that gives 2Mbit per Frame max. With Long GoP (Inter) there are typically 4/5 i-Frames per sec, the other frames being P or B frames which carry much less data, and therefore more of that 50Mbps data can be apportioned to the i-Frames. It is not simply a case of 50 vs 100. Best Regards, Clive

With the EX camera's and Final Cut Pro you can edit your footage and then master it back to the SXS card. After you put the card back in the camera the camera won't see the clip until you click update. The camera will add all the necessary files so it can play in the camera.
I recently used this after editing a live event and using the camera to 'play out' the finished program via the HDSDI connector of my camera.

I have a Sony PDW-F800 XDCAM camera and i own a stack of L series EF Canon lenses. Im looking at buying a LETUS ULTIMATE with 2/3 PRO RELAY for canon with a RED ROCK ELECTRONIC IRIS adapter so its easy to change the iris of the Canon lenses. Is anyone doing this? And more importantly do the piccy's look any good from this combination? I current own the both the HA 4.5x13 Fuji and 7.8x23 Fuji which are top of the line Fuji lenses but my clients constantly ask for the "Shallow depth of field" look which we all know is very difficult on 2/3 inch cameras. My 5D looks fantastic so i am trying to replicate a similar look on my XDCAM. Any ideas??

I've had that problem two weeks after delivery. They replaced the eject mechanism and it's worked ever since
