Posted by xdcam on 2012/12/12 19:50:00 (708 reads)

Just some of the large crowd at the Sydney launch of Sony's CineAlta 4K sensor F5 and F55 cameras.

On display was an F55 kitted out with Fuji Zoom making it look and feel it could tackle ENG, reality type projects to major drama shoots.

The audience were wowed by a demonstration from Ben Allan ACS of how the F55 could recover an image from 1 to 5 stops of both under and overexposed. This alone makes the camera a stand out in today's current crop of digital cameras.

Australian list prices were revealed for the first time. The F5 for $18K and the F55 $35K. First orders to arrive around mid February.

INNOVATION : Let's Collaborate!
Posted by xdcam on 2011/5/16 8:03:35 (815 reads)

Out of  the 'can you believe this?' basket comes an iPhone app that quiet frankly,  (having to read about it twice) just amazes me.

I just completed a marathon conference shoot over three days where such an app would have been  quiet handy for a few of the agenda items, LOL.

CollabraCam is the world's first multi-camera video production iPhone app with live editing and director to camera communication.

As described on the iTunes page: CollabraCam provides a quick, easy and fun way to engage in multi-camera video production with your family, friends and colleagues. CollabraCam's patent pending technology eliminates the need for thousands of dollars worth of equipment, wires and expensive software with a simple, yet powerful, live video editing workflow previously only available to professionals.

You and your crew will produce exciting, dynamic videos with minimal post-production. As the director you are in charge. Enter a title and optional copyright for automatically generated credits. Wirelessly connect with up to four iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad camera operators who also have CollabraCam over local Wi-Fi. Monitor the live-streaming cameras and choose the best shots to edit your video in real-time. Select a camera to put on standby to prepare for the next shot. Silently direct your camera operators to pan a shot, dolly in for a close-up and more.

Video clips are recorded to the cameras and are transferred, compiled and saved to the director in the background as you go. When you end the production and save your session, the final clips are transferred from the cameras to you in a matter of minutes.

The rough cut of your movie can be viewed in the app and exported to your Camera Roll in three sizes. Video clips can also be exported to your Camera Roll to edit in a video-editing app or saved via File Sharing in iTunes to edit on your computer. With minimal time and effort, you can assemble and trim clips and add transitions and music to complete your movie's final cut.

CollabraCam is for real-life collaborative storytelling and makes video production a social experience. Assemble your crew, download CollabraCam and start your first production today!

CollabraCam on the go with a mobile HotSpot*, an ad hoc network on a laptop or anywhere you have access to power with a corded wireless router. An internet connection is not required for any of these solutions to broadcast a Wi-Fi network for use with CollabraCam.

Can hardly wait for this one,

Mal

INNOVATION : Don't Throw Away That Old 2/3" Lens
Posted by xdcam on 2011/4/25 8:00:00 (1042 reads)

That old B4 mount SD lens could look like HD if used on the new NXCAM-100 or F3 super 35mm camera from Sony.
Designed and built for AbelCine by IB/E Optics, HDx Optical Adapters mount between a B4-mount 2/3” lens and the large sensor camera, expanding the projected light to cover the image area.

The AbleCine blog states,
"The HDx Optical Adapter turns the B4 lens into a longer focal length lens, so that the relative depth of field expected for the larger sensor is achieved, while the usual field of view when the lens is mounted to a 2/3” camera is maintained.

All HDx Optical Adapters also optically correct for the different spectral alignment between three-chip prism block sensors, for which the B4-mount lenses were designed, and the single sensor of the large sensor cameras. HDx Optical Adapters are highly telecentric in design, delivering a bright, sharp image across the entire frame, with excellent color and contrast"

This is well worth a look at the ABLECINE BLOG
